INTRODUCTION TO

Facial sculpting with implants

Facial sculpting through implants is a type of surgery that aims to improve the physical features of the face that lack balance, symmetry, and shape, and present a more pronounced, longer-lasting, and durable alternative to facial sculpting through dermal fillers.

The most common examples are a chin, cheekbones and jaw implants, where small incisions are made in order for small silicon implants to be placed and thus re-align, re-shape and improve the facial feature’s appearance.

There are pre-made options to choose from, but implants can be modified in shape and size to accommodate every client’s intended result. Cheek implants are used to increase volume volume in the cheekbone area, if it is deemed to thin and hollow

Chin implants increase the size, projection, or improve the shape of a chin that seems uneven with the rest of the clients facial features, or that is too close to the neck (also called a ‘’weak chin’’),

Jaw implants widen the lower jawline in order to make it more distinctive and improve overall facial symmetry.

Procedure

Depending on the case and area treated, the surgery can last between 30 minutes to 2 hours, and is most often performed under local anesthesia.

CHIN IMPLANTS: A incision is made either in the area below the chin, or inside the mouth, along the lower lip. The implant is placed and the wound is sealed with dissolvable sutures.

JAW IMPLANTS: Several incisions are made inside the mouth, along the jawline, in order for the implants to be placed. They are then sealed with dissolvable sutures.

CHEEK: An incision can be made either inside the mouth, or under the eyelids, so that the implant can be placed. It is then sealed with dissolvable sutures.

Recovery

Due to the nature of the procedure, the results are immediately apparent and long-lasting. However, some bandages and medical dressings must be applied to the area in order to help healing the incisions, but also to support the implants and hold them in place.

Your doctor will advise you on how long they must be kept according to your case and the affected area, and might prescribe some pain-relieving medication.

In general, pain and discomfort is minimal, and most people can return to work after a few days. Exercice, heavy lifting, smoking, use of alcohol and blood-thinning medication or supplements should however be avoided for approximately 2 to 4 weeks after the procedure.
