Brow lift
INTRODUCTION TO
Brow lift
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure used to raise the forehead, minimizing the creases that develop across the forehead, enhancing frown lines and repositioning brows that are too low or sagging.
It is often used by patients who wish to restore the natural shape of the upper facial area, which also gives a more youthful appearance. This surgery can be performed concurrently with other facial corrective surgeries, namely a Facelift, and Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).
Even though it is one of the most carried out cosmetic procedures used to correct the signs of aging, it can also be chosen by younger patients, whose eyebrow complex results in a permanently tired, concerned appearance.
Consultation
Pre-surgery consultation is an imperative part of the process, where the doctor will inquire about, and also determine, a lot of things:
- your overall health
- your cosmetic goals
- your medical history (previous operations, current medications)
- the surgical options available according to your case
- whether you are a good candidate for the surgery (based on your patient profile)
Some examinations and a standard blood test will be taken. You will also be asked to stop tobacco consumption and any types of anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements.
A full course of treatment will then be proposed to you, and all your questions about the next step will be answered. We want you to leave your consultation feeling confident and well-informed about what lies ahead, understanding every aspect of the procedure.
Procedure
A surgical lift is a complex procedure, and there are several methods available to choose from as to its execution:
- ENDOSCOPIC LIFT: One of the most popular procedures, commonly referred to as a “keyhole brow lift,” concealing three to five tiny incisions on the scalp under the hairline. The parts that require lifting are then observed using a small camera attached to a surgical telescope (endoscope) that is inserted through them. For the surgeon to see where to perform surgery on the muscles and tissue under the hairline, the photos are displayed on a screen.
After being raised, the area will be secured with sutures or small temporary screws. Due to their meticulous positioning under the hairline, you won’t be able to notice them. This method is used for moderate cases. - DIRECT BROW LIFT: This is a powerful and effective brow lift that provides great and long-lasting results. A scar that runs along the upper brow line is the only drawback. Although the scar is often extremely faint, it might be evident in patients with very sparse
brow hair. The skin above the eyebrows is removed during this surgery. The majority of direct brow lift patients have thick brows. Additionally, it can be performed with a local anesthetic, which just numbs a portion of the body, and is a shorter procedure. - CORONAL BROW LIFT: An incision is made between the top of the forehead and the start of the hairline. Instead of your scalp, a small quantity of skin and tissue is removed from the top of your forehead. This can also lower an elevated hairline.
A facelift and some other facial cosmetic operations may be combined with a brow lift. Depending on the technique employed, a brow lift operation will last between one and two hours. Typically, brow lift surgery is performed as a day case under general anesthesia.
Recovery
Depending on the technique used and the patient, brow lift recovery varies. In order to allow for proper rest and recuperation, the surgeon will advise you on how long you will need to be off work. Typically, this will be between 1-2 weeks.
Bandages should be used for the first 24 hours following surgery to prevent swelling and bruising. Showering should also be avoided during this time. After that, you can wash your hair gently with baby shampoo, but you must completely dry the affected regions to get rid of any bacteria that might cause an infection. Patients should also employ heat carefully. To dry the scalp, hair, and face, dab softly (as opposed to rubbing) with a soft
towel.
There are methods to lessen swelling, including resting on an elevated position with a few cushions for the first week and gently administering ice to the affected areas. For up to two weeks, patients should refrain from sexual activity, hard lifting, smoking, and strenuous exercise. To help with circulation, it’s crucial to stay active and go for short, slow walks.
Risks
Surgical procedures all include some risk. The following are potential side effects of brow lift surgery:
- Infection
- Facial asymmetry
- Bleeding
- Scarring
- Numbness
- Nerve injury
- Fluid accumulation
- Prolonged swelling
Your doctor will discuss every potential risk pre and post-surgery, so that you fully understand every possible complication that might arise, no matter how minuscule the possibility is.
