Lip filler
INTRODUCTION TO
Lip filler
Lip fillers are Hyaluronic acid injections, that are injected into lips that have lost their suppleness, form, or volume. It is a very popular and routine non-invasive procedure.
People who have thin lips, whether naturally or thinned by aging, and feel self-conscious about them frequently choose the injections, as also those who
wish to correct and improve the overall shape of their lips. The procedure can also smooth away wrinkles around the lip line. It is believed that having big, plump lips is a symbol of youth, beauty, and excellent health, and the result after the injections can greatly boost self-confidence and improve your body image.
It is important to note that lip filler injections are temporary solutions, and repeating injections are required, typically every 9 to 12. As such, they can also be reversed to the patient’s preference. For permanent results, a surgical lip augmentation, or a Fat Transfer can be performed instead.
Consultation
We believe that excellent results always begin with excellent consultation. Our skilled practitioners will take the time to assess any elements of your face and lips that you may be unhappy with, as well as your desired goals, but also take pictures of them for your medical file. They will also consider your general health, existing medical illnesses, risk factors, and allergies. This ensures that we can create a treatment plan that is tailored specifically for you.
Your doctor will recommend that you refrain from smoking for a few weeks before the surgery, and avoid taking any anti-inflammatory medications, including
aspirin, and some herbal remedies, as they could increase bleeding.
Our goal is for you to leave your consultation feeling confident, knowledgeable, and excited to begin your treatment.
Procedure
The procedure is performed under local anesthetic applied to the lips, which will become numb so that the process is as painless and comfortable as possible
for you.
Approximately 1 milliliter (mL) of lip filler solution will be injected into the soft tissue of the lips. No more than 2.5 millimeters (mm) of your skin will be penetrated by the needle. The injected hyaluronic acid combines with the water in the skin, and as a result, enhances lip volume and smoothes lip lines.
Once the injections are done, an ice pack will be provided to ease pain and minimize swelling. Even though the area may be a little uncomfortable for a day or two, it normally doesn’t hurt enough to warrant taking any medicine.
Recovery
You will be able to return home on the same day after the procedure. There will be some bruising and swelling, which will subside within the first 24 to 48
hours, and in some cases, one week. Your physician will brief you on the conditions of your recovery, which will involve:
- icing at regular intervals (which will reduce swelling and inflammation)
- gently massaging the treated area
- refraining from physical activity for approximately one to two weeks after the
- procedure
- avoiding all lip balms, lipstick, and any related products
Some additional instructions or precautions will be taken according to each
patient’s needs and medical history, in order to improve recovery time.
Risks
Any hazards will be thoroughly explained by your doctor. Although serious side effects from dermal fillers are rare, it is crucial that you completely comprehend the procedure, risks, and potential consequences.
These include:
- Bleeding and pain at the injection sites.
- Bruising
- Scarring
- Asymmetry
- Discoloration
- Infection
- Lumps
- Skin necrosis
