Lip lift
INTRODUCTION TO
Lip lift
A lip lift is a surgical procedure that narrows the “philtrum,” or space between the nose and the top of the lip. The technique makes more pink tissue
exposed, giving the lips the appearance of being bigger and more prominent. Additionally, it makes your top central teeth more visible while your lips are at rest. It’s an excellent alternative for those who wish to give their lips height rather than volume. It is a more long-lasting alternative to dermal fillers, which appeals to people who do not want the maintenance associated with fillers.
You are considered a good candidate for a lip lift if you fill the following criteria:
- You are in good physical and mental health
- You are close to your desired weight
- Your thin lips are a result of aging or heredity
- You have a large gap between your upper lip and nose
- You are optimistic and have realistic expectations about what surgery can >accomplish
- You’re seeking a long-lasting outcome
- You’re searching for a substitute for lip fillers
Consultation
A lip lift is a serious cosmetic procedure, so being appropriately prepared is of the utmost importance. Our doctor will assess your general health state and any risk factors, or existing medical disorders, and discuss your use of current medications, herbal supplements and tobacco. Any previous operations will also be taken into account.
You will be required to take a standard blood test, and undergo additional examinations depending on your conditions. The doctor will also examine and
measure your lips and face, and take photographs for your medical record. All of this will allow him to discuss your surgery options, explain all aspects fo the procedure and recommend a full treatment plan. You will leave the consultation fully informed and prepared for your surgery.
Procedure
There are several techniques available to choose from when undergoing a lip lift. All of them can be performed with local anesthesia and take between 1- 2
hours. These are:
- SUBNASAL LIP LIFT: With this method, otherwise known as a bullhorn lip lift, less tissue is taken out from beneath the base of the nose. The top lip is then lifted and sutured, exposing more of the upper lip’s red part.
- GULL-WING LIP LIFT: By removing skin and other tissues right behind the nose, this surgical technique improves the color of the lips. This incision eliminates tissue and changes the form of the lip by raising the red area and enhancing its fullness.
- CORNER LIP LIFT: This technique can help if the outside corners of your lips are turning down. On the upper, outer lip’s edge, incisions are made. The lips
are then turned up by removing pieces of tissue. In instances where the gap is very deep and visible, the same method can be used to treat it. - ITALIAN LIP LIFT: The Italian lip lift is a variation of the bullhorn lift that uses a shorter incision to achieve an equivalent aesthetic result. This technique allows avoiding a full incision across the nose by making two smaller incisions located exactly beneath the nostril. Skin is then taken from each side of the lip, and the wounds are closed. As a result, there is less space between the lip and the nose.
The results are permanent and noticeable immediately after the surgery.
Recovery
The top lip will be sore and swollen to various degrees directly following the surgery. In some cases, the swelling might get worse during the first several days. For the first week or so, the incision must be kept clean and covered with an antibacterial ointment that you will be prescribed. Activity must be
suspended for a few days before being gradually resumed. For roughly two weeks, you should refrain from exercising and exerting yourself.
Lip lifts typically take 2-3 weeks to fully recover from, with the more satisfying results appearing about 2-3 months after the procedure. The scar gradually becomes better as it heals over several months.
Risks
Like any procedure, lip lifts could lead into some complications:
- bleeding
- scarring
- nerve damage
- excessive swelling
- bruising
- poor healing
