Buttock implants

INTRODUCTION TO

Buttock implants

Buttock augmentation, also referred to as gluteal augmentation, is a surgical procedure that improves the contour, size, and shape of the buttocks. Round, firm, and fuller buttocks have become an extremely popular shape, thus making gluteal augmentation one of the most sought-after operations in recent years. Exercise and weight loss may help tone muscles and improve the look of that area, but butt implants may be a quicker option to get a more sculpted appearance.

The greatest candidates for buttock implants are typically those with stable weight, little to no excess skin, who don’t smoke, and who are in generally good health. Buttock implants greatly improve self-esteem, as many who opt for the surgery consider their rear to be too “flat” or “square”, and the final result grants a shapelier and more desirable figure. The operation is also chosen by women with a sagging backside as a result of weight loss or aging.

Procedure

Gluteal augmentation is performed under general anesthesia and can take between 2-4 hours. There are multiple choices as to the type of incision to be made. Your cosmetic surgeon will perform the one you both agreed on during your initial consultation.

The incision can be made between both cheeks (hidden in the crease), toward the top of both sides of the upper buttocks, toward the bottom in both gluteal creases (the areas where your “cheeks” meet the top of the thighs), down the middle of the sacrum, or in the crease between the buttocks. The size of the afflicted areas directly affects how long the incision and scar are. Layered sutures are then used to close the buttocks tissue and sutures or surgical tape is used to close the skin.

Following buttock augmentation, the results are immediately apparent. Incision lines and post-operative swelling will gradually disappear.

Recovery

Immediately after the operation, our staff might place thin tubes under the skin to drain any accumulated blood or fluid, after your incisions have been properly bandaged. You will be required to wear a support garment following the surgery, for as long as your doctor
seems suitable.

No matter the case, it takes several weeks to recover from the operation. For the first two weeks, you should avoid any unnecessary contact with the area, sit on your rear for extended periods of time, and use a specialized cushion. It is also of paramount importance that you refrain from exercise, lifting, and smoking for at least 4 weeks post-surgery. Your surgeon will provide more precise timeframes and give detailed instructions that will facilitate your recovery, including pain relievers and other medication.

Risks

The risks of a gluteal augmentation will be thoroughly discussed by your plastic surgeon. The majority of these are the typical complications that can sometimes arise during anesthesia-assisted operations:

  • Bleeding
  • Scarring
  • Infection
  • Poor wound healing
  • Skin discoloration
  • Change in skin sensation
  • Fluid accumulation
  • Shifting of implants
  • Asymmetry
